Information...

Internet Cafe GO! started as an enquiry into the gamification of our everyday lives. From youth to adulthood, luck and chance historically control one of the most valuable aspects of life: money. To be able to spend money, to be able to acquire, to invest, to be able to purchase. Integral parts of life that teeter between the lines of RNG and legitimate predictions, from large purchases like houses and cars to small, menial Popmart figurines or Fortnite lootboxes. You can’t even trust TFL these days. Dubbed the youngest gambling generation, those considered Gen Z are also considered the most conservative. From views on drugs and sex and values surrounding family and love, the youth have exhibited a severe shift away from being open-minded to neo-liberalistic opinions and truths. Perhaps it’s the unlimited access to everyone’s lives, the quick dopamine hits from digital content without even needing to move. The ability to shift from a tragedy online to a fiery political debate, to a person in their living room opening Pokémon cards at any given time. We’ve been sucked into this hyper-accessible, hyper-legible source of endorphins that replaces our surface-level need for interaction. The mass technological boom and speed of artificial advancement have produced a dystopian hyperreality, a disconnect from organic human interaction and connection in preference for quick synthetic adrenal satisfaction. We lack physical interactions, communities, hobbies, and activities that purposefully slow us down; lifestyles and activities we have now categorized as privileges. We struggle to balance the digital and real, consistently staggering between niche internet hobbies and economy-shifting rug pulls. Inside this Internet Cafe, you are within something that feels old despite its recent relevance. Posed with such a quick stream of current information in a place seemingly frozen in time, there is a sense of community amidst the doom. Temporary, but similar to the fleetingness we’ve grown accustomed to. How does this make you feel? Between the doomer headlines, slow reversi games, fast poker streams, your face, my face, live roulette, think-pieces on our economy, and now this message?
